If you choose to stay at one of our villas to rent in Alcudia for your holidays, you’re going to need some supplies for your meals. You can always go to the store or the nearest supermarket, but if you have the chance, we definitely recommend going to the weekly traditional market of Alcudia, held every Tuesday and Sunday from 9am to 2pm.
Things to do in Alcudia: the traditional market
The Alcudia market is a typical Majorcan market, held inside the town centre and surrounded by the historic walls. Should you want high quality produce, like fresh vegetables and fruit, this is the place you need to go. Produce isn’t the only thing that’s sold on the market: flowers, crafted goods, clothing and jewellery are some of the goods that are also for sale during those days.
The weekly market is one of the most important of Majorca, thanks to its wonderful, familiar atmosphere. It’s a great opportunity to both support the local farmers and soak up in the culture of Majorca and Alcudia. You can find traditional Majorcan food like “ensaimadas” (a sweet pastry product usually eaten for breakfast or afternoon snack) and “herbes”, a traditional liqueur made of fennel, along with other herbs.
When you are finished with your purchases you can wind down at one of the many cafés or restaurants and enjoy a hearty meal in the Alcudia town centre. Afterwards, you can head on to explore the town and discover all the things to do in Alcudia.
Things to do in Majorca: other markets
Alcudia is far from being the only town with a weekly market, and if you have booked one of our villas to rent in Inca (like the wonderful villa Finca Adele) you should visit the Inca weekly market every Thursday morning. On the other hand, the Valldemossa market is held every Sunday and the Soller market takes place on Saturdays (and on Thursdays in Port de Soller).
There are other minor markets in other towns like Sa Pobla, Santa Margalida or Port de Pollensa, but the most important ones were discussed above. We hope you enjoy the market days as well as the fresh produce during your stay in Majorca.
